One of Africa’s finest award winning DJs cum radio show host DJ Black has listed 50 Ghanaian rappers as his greatest Emcees of all time. Few days ago, Hot 97 radio show host Ebro Darden and his co host got the whole world talking about their top 50 greatest rappers of all time.
It is sad that a great rapper is one who is aware of the influence their music has but hasn’t been consumed by the pressure of that truth.
It is also very essential we also measure and score rappers in Ghana by their works so far. Obrafour leads the list as Sarkodie follows, then Okyeame Kwame down to D Black at the bottom. For any rapper to make it to this list means their rap game has been tight and efforts recognized even beyond the shores of Ghana.
For the first 10 spot, it only (might) mean they have more heavier elements (Originality, Voice, Natural Born Gifts, Comfortability, X Factor, Relaying Lived Experience, Consensus Amongst Fans) that constitute the definition of a great rapper.
Interestingly unlike Ebro’s list that largely has a good number of old skool rappers, DJ Black’s list has a fair number of new skool rappers too.
This list is sure to generate some controversies as people will agree or disagree with the numbering of some Emcees.
