A Facebook employee died in an apparent suicide Thursday at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, authorities said.
The male employee was pronounced dead at the scene, which was near the 100 block of Jefferson Drive at a building on Facebook’s Menlo Park campus. Police say that after preliminary investigations they do not suspect any foul play.
The Menlo Park Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting that an adult man was found unresponsive outside an office building on Facebook’s campus.
The man, who has not been identified, jumped from the fourth floor of a building known as MPK 27. He was found unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
A Facebook spokesperson later confirmed the man was one of their employees even though his ,
“We were saddened to learn that one of our employees passed away at our Menlo Park headquarters earlier today. We’re cooperating with police in their investigation and providing support to employees. While the family is being notified, we have no information to share.”
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg is traveling to Washington, D.C., this week, meeting with lawmakers over proposed internet regulation.
