Billboard To Count YouTube Streams

Spread the love

As long as many people can remember, while YouTube views have generated massive revenue for artists and record

labels, they counted for very little when it
came to charting on platforms like
Billboard.

In 2020, that is all set to change because
YouTube streams are going to be
counted, in addition to Spotify and Apple
Music streams and physical and digital
purchases, to calculate a song’s rank on
the Billboard Hot 200 list.
This is very good news for artists in our
part of the world because traditional
streaming isn’t too popular but YouTube
streams and views typically go very high.

Don’t be surprised to see artistes like

Sarkodie, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Shatta Wale and the like start to gain more international success as a result of this change.

What do you think of this announcement? Do you think this change will benefit African artists or will things stay exactly the same as they have been? Let us know down in the comments below.
